Construction is continuing across Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where new aerial images show progress on a central fountain, rebuilt entrance columns and the transformation of the former Muppets Courtyard.
The photos, captured by bioreconstruct and reported by WDW News Today, show four tall concrete columns installed near the entrance. The columns occupy the same locations as an earlier set that was installed and later demolished for reasons that have not been identified.
Scaffolding surrounds much of the existing complex, while the center of the future land remains an active construction area. Beneath the planned courtyard fountain, white plumbing pipes have been installed inside a large excavated section. Additional trenches and utility lines extend through the surrounding site.
The former MuppetVision 3D theater is also visible beyond the new columns. Its brick clock tower has been repainted, with a working clock face still installed near the top. The building is being converted into The Glob, which will house the stage production Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike. The production is planned to feature Mike, Sulley and other monsters, with an original song composed by Randy Newman.
Along Dark Avenue, the main street leading toward the Monsters, Inc. factory, crews have added deep overhangs, ledges and irregular rooflines to reshape the former Muppets Courtyard façades. A long section of the former PizzeRizzo dining venue appears to contain construction equipment and materials, while decorative trim resembling arches and monster-like forms is taking shape beneath the roofline.
The aerial views also show the existing buildings framing the future central courtyard and leading toward the Monsters, Inc. factory and the show building for the land’s suspended door roller coaster.
Monstropolis is replacing Muppets Courtyard and is scheduled to open in phases. Most of the land is expected to open in 2027, followed by the suspended door coaster at a later time. The attraction is planned to be Disney’s first suspended coaster and its first coaster with a vertical lift.
Other announced elements include Harryhausen’s restaurant, featuring a tentacled sushi-chef Audio-Animatronic, along with Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the Monsters University Alumni Club and the Scareporium.
