Universal Studios Japan operator USJ LLC says it has entered preliminary discussions with Osaka City about potentially leasing city-owned land in Sakurajima 2-chome. The company said no details beyond its interest in exploring a long-term lease have been finalized.

Universal Studios Japan may expand onto nearly 15 acres of Osaka-owned land in a project reportedly costing up to $1.88 billion. Nikkei reported that the park could add attractions and pursue a lease agreement with Osaka’s municipal government around 2028, although Universal has not confirmed the plans.
