Theme Park Report

A fireworks launch facility near Disney’s Hollywood Studios has returned to activity, with new aerial photos showing rows of launch racks and other equipment inside the secured site. WDW News Today reported that the facility is located off World Drive and is divided into several concrete launch pads surrounded by fencing. A gravel service road runs through the property, providing access to the individual launch areas. The photos, captured by aerial photographer bioreconstruct, show dozens of launch racks arranged across the central pads. Additional racks, frames and other equipment appear grouped or stacked near one end of the enclosure. The site was constructed in 2016 for “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” according to the report. That nighttime show ceased performances in 2020, after which the launch facility remained dormant for several years. Disney recently fired large fireworks shells from the location during an overnight test, bringing the site back into use. However, Disney has not announced how the reactivated facility will be used. WDW News Today identified several possible applications, including pyrotechnics for “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” during Disney Jollywood Nights, the park’s New Year’s Eve celebration, or a private event. The site could also support an unannounced nighttime spectacular, although no such project has been confirmed in the supplied reporting. The aerial images provide a look at the current equipment layout, but they do not establish which specific event or attraction the testing was intended to support.
