Disneyland’s Main Street Cinema Returns With Mickey Cartoons

Main Street Cinema at Disneyland Park has reopened with a new presentation centered on Mickey Mouse, replacing the Sherman Brothers tribute that had been shown at the venue. According to WDW News Today, the theater was closed for almost three weeks while “So Much That We Share: A Tribute to the Sherman Brothers” was removed. The tribute debuted as part of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebration. The cinema’s marquee now reads “Now Showing Mickey Mouse – Star of the Silver Screen.” A yellow banner below it features multiple versions of Mickey and the message, “It was all started by a mouse. Chock-full of laughter and fun!” The design is similar to the banner used before the Sherman Brothers presentation, although it now includes artwork based on the 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoons. Additional banners on the entrance columns promote different film genres, including comedy, adventure, romance, and thrills. Vintage-style posters advertise six cartoons playing on the six screens inside the theater. The entryway also includes posters for “The Band Concert,” “Steamboat Willie,” and “Fantasia.” A separate display highlights Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, and the former Mickey Mouse Revue. The latter attraction originally opened at Magic Kingdom before later moving to Tokyo Disneyland, according to the report. Tilly, the cinema’s ticket booth attendant, is dressed for the spooky season in a red dress with a skull motif and a black lace bat mask. Inside, guests can watch the cartoons from benches or a central platform. While the theater’s layout remains largely unchanged, its programming has shifted from classic Mickey shorts spanning several eras to shorts from the 2013 Mickey Mouse series.
