Construction is continuing on Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with the future land’s entrance arch, Pueblo Esperanza village, and artificial mountain range becoming more defined ahead of its scheduled 2027 opening.
The steel framework for the main entry arch now includes vertical studs and curved sections that create the layered profile shown in concept art. Additional steel components have also been added to the structure.
Inside the developing land, several rooflines are visible among the buildings planned for Pueblo Esperanza. Some structures have been covered with protective sheathing, while exposed wooden trusses outline other peaked roofs. Pueblo Esperanza is a fictional community inspired by the landscapes, architecture, and cultures of Central and South America.
A large framing network has been installed across the rear of Tropical Americas, forming the basis of an artificial mountain range. The backdrop will help define the land’s skyline and conceal portions of its attraction buildings. Themed rockwork is also progressing near the edge of the area, where scaffolding surrounds gray formations as crews add cracks, stones, and weathered details.
The former Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures building is being retained and converted into a retail location for Pueblo Esperanza. A white, balcony-style railing has been installed along the front of the building, which previously served as a DinoLand U.S.A. gift shop.
Tropical Americas will replace the former DinoLand U.S.A. area and is planned to include three named attractions. Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto will take guests inside the magical Casita, while Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will replace DINOSAUR with an original adventure through a Maya temple. El Carrusel de los Animalitos will feature hand-carved Disney animal figures.
The land is also expected to include a new playground, shops, and dining locations housed within the village. According to WDW News Today, Disney Imagineers have discussed using years of research and material testing to develop Pueblo Esperanza’s architecture, textures, and aged appearance.
