The Frontierland boardwalk at Magic Kingdom is now completely blocked by construction walls as work continues on Piston Peak National Park, according to WDW News Today.
The walls extend from Liberty Square to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. About half of the boardwalk had been closed since early July, leaving guests access to only a small section near the Westward Ho location in recent weeks. The latest expansion of the barriers closes the remaining portion.
The boardwalk is not expected to be removed. It appears in concept art for Piston Peak National Park, although WDW News Today reports that it will likely be refurbished during the construction period. The available reporting does not specify the scope or timing of any refurbishment.
Piston Peak is described as a Cars-themed addition to Frontierland featuring two planned attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin Along. The source material does not provide opening dates or technical details for either ride.
Construction has also resulted in changes to nearby structures. WDW News Today reported that the former Ichabod’s Landing gift shop near The Haunted Mansion has been demolished. The building stood next to the attraction’s entrance gates and, like the adjacent Mike Fink Keel Boats landing, is now gone. The building on the other side remains and has received an extension.
The construction area has also included a raised ground level and the base of a tower crane installed in July, although the rest of the crane had not yet arrived when the report was published.
New themed signs and posters have been added to sections of the construction walls. The displays include references to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Hard Times Cafe, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, and fictional locations and products connected to Disney properties. Some of the signs replicate designs seen at Tiana’s Bayou General.
The walls are not yet fully covered, and WDW News Today reported that additional displays—including possible Piston Peak concept art—may be added as construction continues.
