Guests at Disney California Adventure can once again travel directly between Cars Land and Avengers Campus. The connector reopened Saturday, August 29, after being closed since April 2025 for construction related to the Avengers Campus expansion and a new restroom facility.
The passageway includes the newly opened Take-A-Brake restroom building. On the Cars Land side, the structure is designed as an old Route 66 mechanic shop that was later converted into a roadside rest stop. Its weathered exterior includes vintage signage and references to Pop n Patch, the tire repair shop from Cars that is no longer operating.
The opposite side of the building transitions into Avengers Campus with the look of an aged bunker associated with Howard Stark’s era. That exterior includes Strategic Scientific Reserve graphics, giving the same structure a different identity depending on which land guests are entering.
WDW News Today reported the reopening and shared images of the completed passageway. Instagram user @x.treto, identified in the report as the project’s Lead Graphics and Design Lead, also shared an initial look at the reopened route. According to the designer, research trips along Route 66 helped inform the building’s architecture, environmental details, and graphics.
Walt Disney Imagineering recently provided a closer look at the finished passage and its two distinct themes. Construction walls began moving back earlier in the week ahead of the connector’s reopening.
The direct route had been unavailable for more than a year while work took place, making the reopening both an access change between the two lands and the debut of the Take-A-Brake restroom facility.
